Lady of Cao
Señora de Cao or Dama de Cao is the name given to a female mummy of the Mochica culture discovered in the archaeological site El Brujo (Huaca Cao Viejo) that is located about 45 km north of Trujillo, in the Department of La Libertad, Peru.
His discovery is compared to that of the Lord of Sipán. Before the discovery, it was thought that only men had held high positions in ancient Peru. It is believed that the lady had the status of ruler in the theocratic society of the Chicama River Valley and was considered an almost divine character. The luxury of the ornaments and dresses that accompany the funeral bundle of women demonstrate the high status of the ruler.
El Brujo (archaeological site)
El Brujo/The Wizard is one of the most important and oldest archaeological complexes on the north coast of Peru. It consists mainly of the Huaca Prieta, the Huaca Cao Viejo and the Huaca Cortada.
It is located in the valley of the Chicama River, in the Magdalena de Cao district, Ascope province, La Libertad department, about 60 km north of the city of Trujillo. It has been open to the public since May 12, 2006. In this archaeological complex was the tomb and the mummified body of the Moche ruler named Lady of Cao.
