Pastoruri Glacier
The Pastoruri glacier is a Peruvian glacier located south of the Cordillera Blanca, in the department of Ancash, within the Huascarán National Park declared a World Heritage Site in 1985. It extends around the north face of the top of the Pastoruri Snowy, having its origin at 5,201 m and descending to 5,001 m of altitude.1 The glacier has an approximate surface area of 1.99 km², with a length of 1.3 km and a width of 2.03 km.
Its morphological type is of glacier valley and is currently in retreat, a fact that is evident in the strips of rocks and bare debris before its forehead. The small lateral lagoons, stagnant by the tongue of ice, are also proof of the decrease, since they occupy depressions abandoned by the retreating glacier.
